The Gold Coast is a tourist playground for both adults and kids alike. As well as all of the paid attractions such as Dreamworld, Movie World, Sea World and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, there are also lots of FREE things to do on the Gold Coast! Below we take a look at some of the best parks, green spaces and playgrounds on the Gold Coast.
Kurrawa Pratten Park, Broadbeach
This fantastic all-abilities playground is located on the foreshore of Broadbeach, and is just across the road from your accommodation staying at Carmel by the Sea! Enjoy the ocean breezes while the kids have fun in this enclosed play area. There's 2 slippery slides built into the side of a hill, a submarine and giant sandcastle for imaginative play, swings, climbing nets and lots more. You'll find public toilets onsite and BBQ facilities nearby. Why not make a morning of it and pack a picnic to enjoy under the shade of a tree or take a swim at the beach after spending some time exploring the playground. Just a short stroll away you'll find plenty of Broadbeach cafes and restaurants.
Broadwater Parklands, Southport
Ride the G (Gold Coast Light Rail) a few stops north to Southport and enjoy the popular Broadwater Parklands playground. Located just metres from the enclosed swimming area of the Broadwater. There's heaps to keep the kids entertained with a mini bike-track, jumping pillow, and lots of other play equipment. The Southport Rockpools are also nearby where kids can have fun with squirting water features and shallow 'swimming' areas. Across the road you'll find Australia Fair Shopping Centre, plus a range of cafes and restaurants nearby for your convenience. Oh, and if you're visiting during the warmer months check out the seasonal 'AquaSplash' inflatable water park! (there's a cost associated with this attraction). Public facilities such as toilets and shaded areas are nearby.
Pirate Park, Palm Beach
Ahoy there mateys! This pirate-themed park is fantastic for imaginative play! A short drive north down the coast and you'll find Pirate Park, Palm Beach. A large pirate-ship wreck is the central feature of this playground and kids can 'walk the plank' or burn off some energy on the climbing equipment, tunnels and slides. It's located right by the water of Currumbin Lagoon and perfect for a swim or family picnic. Dune Cafe is also right nearby open 7 days from 6am to 4pm.
Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens, Benowa
Enjoy the natural surrounds of this oasis on the Gold Coast! Explore over 31hectares, just a 15 minute drive from Broadbeach. As well as a well-equipped kids playground you'll also discover large expanses of grassed areas to play, a Sensory Garden, Gum Tree Corridor, Butterful Garden and the Rose Garden. Take a walk around the lake on the boardwalk and watch the ducks swimming or stretch out with a picnic in one of the many shady areas. You'll also find a cafe onsite, plus public toilet facilities.
